The project involves detailed design and construction for the provision of new pumps and rising mains to transfer flows from the existing Partick pumping station to the inlet works at Shieldhall WWTW. The new arrangement at the pumping station will transfer up to around 1 900 litres per second. The rising mains required are proposed as twin 900 mm diameter over a length of 4,3 km. and will involve tunnelled crossings of the River Kelvin and Clyde as well as tunnelled crossings of the A814 Road and the Glasgow to Oban Railway. The Glasgow Underground and Clyde Tunnel are also crossed in open cut sections of the work. The route corridor is mainly in private land in an urban environment. Process upgrading is expected to be required at Shieldhall WWTW in the form of additional aeration within existing tanks in conjunction with automation at existing storm tanks and control amendments to existing screw pumps.
