A national surveillance monitoring programme will be conducted by the EPA's radiation monitoring laboratory from 2017 onwards in order to monitor radioactive substances in drinking water.The primary focus of this programme will be the analysis and reporting of monitoring data to drinking water regulators. The programme aims to meet Irish and European Union legal requirements arising from the EURATOM Drinking Water Directive of 22.10.2013 laying down requirements for the protection of the health of the general public with regard to radioactive substances in water intended for human consumption.
The EPA is establishing a single operator framework agreement for the procurement of the provision of an on-site technical resource to assist EPA staff in the National Surveillance Programme for Radioactivity in Drinking Water.
