Båthallen was the Norwegian Shipping Museum's first exhibition building in Bygdøynes. It opened in 1958, with traditional boats from the entire coastline and exhibitions on Norwegian shipping in the sailing-ship era. The exhibitions have been upgraded over the years, but sufficient grants have not been available for maintenance and renovation of the building. The hall is not insulated, the floor has settlement damage, there are several places where the facade and roof leak and the technical installations are out-of-date. The hall was closed to the public in 2009 and the exhibition elements and a number of boats and cultural-historical objects were removed.
The project is mainly financed by grants from the Ministry of Culture and the project is dependent on this decision being maintained.
The total estimated engineering design fees are above the national threshold. The competition is being held in accordance with the regulations' part III and the terms in this competition notice.
    The work includes:

The work includes the preparation of a tender description and assistance with contracting. Emphasis will be put on solutions for the building that ensure a long lifetime. Adaptation to exhibitions and flexible solutions must be considered. There will be coordination with the exhibition project.
Assessing climate and insulating the old hall structure will be an important part of the assignment. This includes both the condition for keeping the building and adapting exhibitions. The assignment includes assessing climatisation and lighting for the exhibition.
Tenders are to be submitted as hourly rates excluding VAT, with an estimated number of hours per discipline for the assignment.
