Erläuterungstext

/ar·cà·dia/ Arcadia as the eternal and fascinating myth of a world in which people live in harmony with nature, surrounded by bucolic forest landscapes, one of the most important places of imaginary escape where nature and artifice become one.

The wide variety of works and installations inside the Golden Gate Park allows visitors to have a complete architectural and artistic experience, from big museums to small buildings to Victorian ruins, the landscape that changes continuously as it crosses the space surrounds them. The new San Francisco House of Music appears at the visitor as a silent element, almost anonymous, monolithic and eternal, which emphasizes its presence but at the same time fits cleverly into the landscape, becoming an integral part of it. The large auditorium thus takes on the appearance of a great “temple”, where the absence of ornament itself becomes an architectural language, showing itself in all its grandeur; the great coffered ceiling becomes the only architectural gesture that gives a flavor of the artifact.

The large outdoor cavea and the remaining service spaces of the project are divided in order to create a vast “fence” that surround the auditorium and preserves it; a large square recessed, hidden, a place that the visitor discovers through the great portal created by monolithic auditorium, overlooking the main entrance. The finishing of the window frames and wooden interior warm the environment, in contrast with the concrete washed, synonymous with a timeless architecture, in an almost bucolic setting, where the visitor can become estranged from everything, surrounded by nature that the park offers.
