The design principles arise from the city's landscape and its relationship with the existing area of green spaces. The study area is organized with the primary and the secondary pedestrian walkways. These basic routs derive from the city’s main axes.
The central axis connects the city’s eastern and western part. The secondary axis connects the city’s southern and northern part. These arterial routes appear as a consistent element linking together the various areas. Tertiary walkways provide pedestrian walkways in recreational and scenic areas for casual walking and hiking.
A hierarchical network is designed that refers to city’s grid system. The central and the secondary axis are orthogonal to each other. Two inherent characteristics of the grid plan, frequent intersections and orthogonal geometry, assist pedestrian movement. The geometry helps with orientation and wayfinding and its frequent intersections with the choice and directness of route to desired destinations.
The landscape design also relates to the creation of temporary functions (gallery - museum - café) situated above the ground. All sections (museum, café, playground, open air theater, athletic courts and open air rest points) were sited to ensure both visual and physical connectivity whilst still allowing each to have their own sense of place.
