Erläuterungstext

Science, Technology and nature are complementary. We work on a natural concept introducing Science and Technology.

To shape to the museum, we searched the invisible lines of science, technology and nature and we created different patterns to characterize the new museum:
a. the energetic lines of Technological structures
b. the linear pattern of the former agriculture on the site
c. the lines drawn in the air by the group intelligence of the birds
d. the eternal flow of the river
e. the virtual lines of the astronomic constellations
The sequence of the park in front of the museum and the concert hall is characterized by the organic lines of the water surface, small islands, pavilions and flowing shapes.

With the museum we create an initial point to the flowing patterns inside the parc, the organic lines circulate around the museum which can be read as a pavilion which generates its surrounding lines.

The heart of the building is the big and light atrium with a ramp, inspired in the lines of the bird flock. The ramp becomes one of the main features to experiment the space. Walking up the ramp, we simulate to move into the undefined space, as if we move like the birds in the air rising up to the sky.

The façade
You see the building and it seems to be breathing, it seems to be moving and changing with the weather conditions.
We propose a façade like a skin, like a dragon skin, which opens and closes within the movement of the shape of the building. It regulates the shadows and the light. It can give views to the park and it can close the views.
The façade can be read in different manners. From inside, it appears as a swarm of birds overflying the park. It is a colored façade which transforms the building in a different appearance all day long. From far away, the panels look like the colored feathers of a Kolibri.

The public space
Our main interest is to do a building for the people of Xingtai and its visitors, we want to offer a maximum of public spaces around the museum. This spaces should be used by the public even when the museum is closed. The public space should offer a high quality for the city and the visitors of the museum.
Our main goal is to open the museum area to the public and to attract the people to the site. The masterplan design is characterized by green contemplative spaces, urban gardens, wooden platforms for recreation, playground and activity spaces for different ages, outdoor gastronomy, outdoor exhibitions and the topography with natural spaces flowing around the museum.
An integrative part of the museum will be the big terrace open to the public.

The goal of the museum
The museum should be an educative institution for people in different ages. It should invite to touch, to experience, to research, to learn and to understand the science and technology.
Science and technology are based on a process which could reset or forward in a continuous or fragmented way in its flow and directly depends from the nature where the evolution is permanently changing. Nature, Science and Technology appear as a unity in our life.
We understand our design process in the same way. Our evolution in the design is based on a long research. We did a big amount of tries, alternative solution, investigations and concepts.
The Science museum is not only a sustainable building with low energy impact, they will actually enhance the production of regulating, provisioning, supporting and cultural ecosystem services and project a model of ecological infrastructure development for present and future generations.

The sustainable approach
The EMBT Science Museum is designed as an ecological infrastructure that is developed to contribute to all the different ecosystem services domains. In particular we developed the building integrating the blue and green dimensions. The ecological infrastructure is developed through a visionary horizontal and vertical garden system with water and vegetation. As a result, the blue and green spaces of the Science museum will provide several urban ecosystem services for the city by having a climate mitigating and air quality impact, increasing areas of pollination and biodiversity, and offering spaces for relaxation and enjoyment which will certainly represent a tourist attraction.
