Texas Tech seeks to commission an artist to develop an open-work, twodimensional, outdoor public sculpture to be located atop the length of a low banquette that runs parallel to the sidewalk leading to Angelo State University Porter Henderson Library’s main (North) entrance. This artwork should function as a vibrant signboard for the University, as it will be visible from the University Mall in both directions, and should preserve some degree of visibility along the Mall. This site-specific work should call attention to the building’s function and the unique West Texas location of the University, and should emphasize collaboration and the pursuit of knowledge among today’s highly connected and technologically savvy students. Ideal submissions will unify the newly renovated library and the existing campus, and will extend outward, inviting passersby into
the Library. Innovative proposals incorporating color and texture are welcomed. In order to be considered, submissions must attend to the conceptual goals outlined in this document. Objects that are mass-produced or of standard manufacture are not eligible for consideration.
