plaza de la encarnación is the heart of seville\'s historical quarter. today however it is a destructured, indecipherable, dysfunctional, open space.
the gu\'s proposals to revitalise the historical quarter, contained in advance documents of seville\'s town planning directive (pgou), gives it a structural role within a strategic organisation that regards it as an area of great opportunity, the nexus between the northern and southern sections of the historical quarter.
the presence of new uses in the space should help to balance the activities undertaken and connect the north with the tertiary and touristic activities of the south.
the competition must take into consideration the activity undertaken in la encarnación since the central market was implanted there.
simultaneously, we aim to base the reorganisation of the space on public transport\'s new planning and mobility criteria along the puerta osario-campana axis. this will imply a new design for the square\'s existing transport terminus.
the planned connection to the metro system, with a station in the square, adds a new element to its historical status as an open space in the city; that of a gateway to the centre. this new element is significant due to the fact that it will, from a quantitative point of view, add a large influx of users, defined by the time-space destructured condition of the metropolis\' inhabitants.
the presence of archaeological remains in the subsoil must, as an on-site museum, form part of the solutions, avoiding divisions with respect to planned uses, attempting to furnish a comprehensive view of the urban evolution before us.
