    Étendue de la prestation
SPT are currently engaged in a major refurbishment and modernisation programme for the Subway which involves a considerable number of design and construction activities.
These are categorised under the following workstreams: a) Station refurbishment & accessibility; b) Infrastructure; c) Rolling stock, signalling & associated system improvements; d) Ticketing.
Contained within each workstream are various work packages which can be classed as stand alone projects. The majority of these stand alone projects come under CDM notifiable projects and as such SPT require Principal Contractors and CDM-coordinators.
Whilst it is desirable to have one Principal Contractor to cover all the work streams the nature, expertise and specialisation required in each project means this is not a practical aim. Notwithstanding this, SPT view the CDM-C role as pivotal in helping improve the overall standard of health and safety on projects. Due to the importance of this duty SPT recognise the advantages of engaging one CDM-C to coordinate all CDM requirements across all future work streams including those it has already awarded.
SPT believe this will provide us with: 1) Robust coordination of the health & safety aspects of the design activities and a consistent approach across the various designs; 2) Knowledge & understanding of the big picture as opposed to individual projects thereby leading to SPT being able to identify potential problems at an early stage in the design process e.g. facilitation of health & safety design information across the individual projects; 3) The compilation of pre construction information packs that are reliable and consistent across all work streams and individual projects; 4) A consistent approach to evaluating and collating designer risk information (residual), and also allows for the identification of potential conflicts; 5) Specialist input at each stage of the design if required; 6) A uniform approach to safety file compilation.
