    The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is developing further extensions to Midland Metro through the Midland Metro Alliance (MMA). Metro Line 1 has been in operation since 1999 and the Birmingham City Centre Extension (BCCE) has been open since May 2016.
    The extension from New Street Station to Centenary Square, and from Line 1 to the Rail Station in Wolverhampton are currently under construction with an extensions to Five Ways and from the centre of Birmingham to Digbeth via the HS2 Curzon Street Station (‘BEE’) in development and going through the Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) process.
    Following on from the above, the MMA is developing the East Birmingham Solihull Extension (‘EBSE’) which will link from the terminus of the BEE to Birmingham Airport and the proposed HS2 Interchange Station via Bordesley and Chelmsley Wood.

    The TWAO will provide the necessary powers to construct and operate the EBSE including the powers to compulsorily acquire land.
