OpenThinkBox Design Competition: TimePod

Dig around in the present, and create an archeological archive for future understanding of human existence in South Africa today. Design the skin, or outer structure, and also fill the interior with relevant items, artifacts or activities. Suggest a prominent site – a site known to you but that may also be a landmark in 80 or 100 years’ time – where your TimePod will be built. Then tell us the story of why you have chosen this project and this site. Specify your audience – children, young people, overseas visitors, space travellers? And specify your purpose – is it educational, environmental, political or social? Go wherever your imagination takes you … Is it crime or bling bling; blogging or global warming? Make a cogent argument for your choice of project, explaining why you believe your TimePod is culturally and socially relevant, and anchored in the reality of South Africa today. Along with the physical structure, entrants should portray the items, events or activities to be displayed within the TimePod. The following guidelines must be followed:
- Small carbon footprint (sustainability)
- Social and cultural relevance in the South African context
- Self-contained structure
- A small group of people must be able to design, build and equip the TimePod
- One A4-page manifesto is required to motivate why you have chose your
- specific theme
