In a process of abstraction in which the landscape materializes to become architecture, the Sports and Cultural Center of Reignier-Esery arises from the integration of a communal program inserted in the foothills of the Alps. The genius loci of Reignier-Esery, characterized by the small scale of its buildings - protected by steeply sloped roofs -, informs the architectural language of the proposal that dialogues in its materials and volumetry with the urban and natural context of the place. The building belongs to the landscape: it emerges and merges with it. The cultivated fields with their regular aligned geometries construct the own formal language that adopts the new building. The roof is the main element of the project. Its serrated profile is understood from the distance as a characteristic gesture that evokes the surrounding landscape and becomes an icon of the city. The changes of direction of the roofscape compose a dynamic geometry that is related indirectly with the traditional roofs of the Alps and with the mountains themselves. The broken variable profile avoids the perception of a large built-up volume and establishes a dialogue with smaller scale elements. The program of uses includes a sports pavilion, several covered tennis and paddle tennis courts and a multifunctional auditorium. The surrounding exterior green spaces are conceived as a footprint of the local cultural landscape
