VELOPARKING EUROVILLE BASEL 2002
Seit Beginn der Planungen gab es die Befürchtung, ein unterirdisches Veloparking werde von der Bevölkerung nicht akzeptiert. Die relativ niedrigen Decken stehen in einem ungewohnten Verhältnis zur Grösse der Räume und die sehr unregelmässige Form des Grundrisses im Bereich der grossen Abstellflächen begünstigt die Wahrnehmung der Räume nicht. Es war deshalb notwendig, für die VelofahrerInnen eine Stimmung zu erzeugen, die ein selbstverständliches Eintreten und –Fahren ermöglicht, was das Ansprechen mehrerer Sinne erforderte.
Wände und Decke sind blau, der Boden ockerfarbig, das Licht hat Tageslichtfarbe: diese Kombination verleiht dem Raum Weite und Frische, die beim Einfahren unmittelbar wahrgenommen werden kann. Die Akustik ist durch eine heruntergehängte Decke gedämpft und klassische Musik unterstreicht die Empfindung hier an einem angenehmen Ort anzukommen.
From the beginning of the planning stages there was a misgiving that the public might not accept the idea of an underground bicycle parking.
The ceilings are relatively low and are in an unusual proportion relative to the size of this large space which is difficult to appreciate to begin with due to the irregular floorplan. For this reason it was necessary to create an inviting atmosphere for cyclists, a job that required the stimulation of several senses.
Lighting was chosen to mimic the color of daylight creating an illusion of width and providing a bright atmosphere. The walls and ceiling are painted blue and the floor an ochre color. Classical music is piped in and the acoustics are muffled with the help of a suspension ceiling resulting in an overall successful combination appreciated from the moment one enters the bicycle parking.
