In accordance with the institutes that make up the Dres-den Faculty of Architecture, the building is divided into seven solitary structures. Every of these structures provi-des office and seminar rooms in the lower more massive part, whereas the upper floors – which are flooded with light – are intended for use as student work places.

The central facilities of the faculty are located in a com-mon base storey. This storey serves two important fun-ctions. First, it balances the slope of the property and provides the institutes with a foundation. Additionally, it connects the solitary structures on two levels. When ente-ring the faculty from north-east, you reach the other side of the site stepless through the base storey. On top of the base storey is a second path through the university buil-ding. This path connects the forecourt of the auditorium center with the west entrance plaza of the faculty.

A relaxed building development forms a counterpole to the two extremely massive structures in the north and south. At the same time, the character of the remaining university campus is incorporated through the many scat-tered structures.
The design represents a separate mini town. The interplay of narrow alleys, open courtyards and plazas as well as the varying heights of the structures play a crucial role here. The solitaires are arranged in a way that exciting visual axes and routes continually emerge between the institutes. Thus, the structures start to communicate with each other.
