Erläuterungstext

Railn means superimposing strategies of multiple dimensions on the vacant land to achieve the goal of respecting the history and culture of the community, protecting natural resources and improving the quality of life of residents.

1. Increase Connectivity and Traffic Function
We made the park's central axis an easy-to-access walkway and bicycle path equipped with a complete signage system and a multi-functional stop to connect the Great Lakes Trail and Buffalo's street bikeway.

2. Shape the Park as A Healthy Green Space
DL&W's trail is a collection of rich sports and fitness functions. We consider the activities of various groups of people to arrange climbing, multi-purpose courses, winter ski resorts, fishing places, etc. At the same time, holding color run, small marathon in the colorful DL&W's runway has will attract great residents and media attention.

3. Revitalize the Local Economy Through Culture and Art
We make full use of the retaining walls and berms to transform the terrain and form a series of public gathering places where residents can learn about history, appreciate and create art. The beautiful outdoor space provides the surrounding business with space for outdoor dining, film show to attract more business.

4. Create A Native and Ecological Plant Landscape
We retain the native plants in the site, remove invasive species, and arrange plantings combined with the topography. Through the linear perennial borders, we echo the original railway texture of the site. The flourishing land cover effectively will slow down and purify the runoff of the site.

5. Low-Cost Maintenance and Construction Methods That Emphasize Public Participation
We pay attention to energy-saving and participation of residents in the use and management of parks to achieve low-cost maintenance. Residents can participate in the cultivation of flowers and adopt trees and be engaged in the operation of the park in their spare life. We envision the development of an app for the park where activities such as exercise recording, plant identification, access to information, map navigation, donations, etc., can be added in.

All strategies increase convenience and shape the park into a representation of vitality.
