Erläuterungstext

The objective behind the new counseling center is to create an inviting and well-functioning environment that encourages conversation between the cancer patients, their relatives and advisors.

With this in mind it is POLYFORM’s vision to create a center with a sequence of simple and well-arranged in- and outdoor spaces that appeal to curiosity, openness and trust, and inspire the individual to seek counseling. The building takes its outline and scale from the local architecture and landscape in order to create a coherent and non-institutional house.

The house is organized as a set of smaller units that are built together to form an eventful entity, accomplishing a sense of intimacy that one would normally fi nd in a home, but with the variation that characterizes a small town or park. The center also features green roofs and walls for a comfortable microclimate, carbon footprint minimizing initiatives and local handling of rainwater.

The house is composed of fi ve smaller buildings in the same scale as the surrounding villas. This creates a space that becomes the heart of the building in the shape of a common room. The common room ties the building together, and has the kitchen area as its central and primary element. The kitchen functions perfectly as a space that sets the scene for informal conversation and all secondary common functions such as dining area, fi replace, play room for children and library, are centered around it.

The garden surrounds the building and continues the organizational principle of connected sequences of space. The common room and secondary functions all have defi ned and framed views to different spaces in the garden. Building and garden are not considered to be two isolated phenomena. Instead POLFYFORM has introduced an overall green structure that covers both inside and outside.
