Erläuterungstext

Our plan for Eteläpuisto completes the grid city of Tampere. The current boundary of the urban area will be sharply defined rather than shifted. The park landscape extending from the hills of Pyyniki to the estuary of the Ratinansuvanto will acquire a more prominent position in the city and develop a strong relationship with the lake through a large scenic staircase. The plan will literally provide the city with a balcony to the water.

The park offers space for many functions. It is the front garden of Eteläpuisto, while serving as a recreational area for downtown Tampere residents who can walk via a long boulevard from the city centre along Ratinansuvanto to the park and adjacent landscape. A restaurant, spa, sports and recreational areas, renovated ice rink, lots of natural greenery and quiet areas interspersed with intensively used areas create a popular attraction on the shores of Lake Pyhäjärvi.

Some 800 new dwellings will be built in four blocks within the grid. The residential buildings will consist of numerous housing types, with room for workshops, work areas and facilities in the plinth. The blocks will be diverse in scope, with a variety of building heights, accesses and communal gardens. Parking is always underground.

The park is an important link between the city centre of Tampere and the adjoining expansive landscape. The new park layout enhances the usability and perception of the incomparable beauty of the lake. For all city residents, during every season.

The development anticipates involvement by residents and all interested parties. It is not a blueprint, but a flexible plan with a high sustainability ambition, many opportunities for an attractive business environment and a strong bond with the particular qualities of the site.
