Erläuterungstext

The building of the Wiekopolska Oncology Center establishes multidimensional connections with its surrounding urban space of Poznań, creating a new, cohesive city block. It harmoniously integrates into the existing urban fabric. It continues the street frontage, while referencing both the historical and contemporary architectural context. The project is situated near significant historical landmarks and draws inspiration from these valuable structures, which serve as key points of reference for the new development.

The facade reflects the historical buildings in the surrounding by rhythmic divisions and pronounced architectural orders. The designed Oncology Center together with the connector located on the second floor and the existing Wielkopolska Oncology Hospital, forms a gateway to Garbary Street and open towards the Old Town.

The building is crowned with mansard roof, which allows it to subtly adapt to the scale of the surrounding structures. Hospital is located in a prominent significant location so this form creates a distinct and appropriate character. The building is consistent with the historic architectural styles of the area, while standing out as a significant landmark in the city skyline.

The spatial structure of the new hospital is clear and functional. The interior is divided into separates zones for healthy patients returning patients, children, and staff. It ensures intuitive navigation, high user comfort, and safety for all occupants. The functional layout is organized around a central core with a staircase, two elevators, a block of restrooms and utility shafts. This structural approach enables flexible room arrangement providing high adaptability in spatial design.

The main entrance, located on Garbary Street, leads to a spacious lobby. Functions dedicated to patients are located across the first floors but upper levels are reserved for staff.

The compact and functional form of the building and implemented technological solutions, makes it environmentally friendly, with a low carbon footprint and minimal operating costs. The building's compact shape effectively reduces heat loss and carefully selected finishing materials, known for their durability and resistance to damage, ensure the creation of high-quality spaces. This approach minimizes the need for repairs and maintenance work.
