VILLA YOUR WAY
It was 50 years ago that Le Corbusier died, on August 27th, 1965. Within the large corpus of his work, Villa Savoye occupies a very distinct place. It is almost an emblem of modern architecture, modern life, modern aspirations. It is the paradigmatic house par excellence for almost a century of "modernity."
The word "savoye" is pronounced exactly like the words "sa voie", which means, in French, "his way"... that is, in this case, Le Corbusier's way...
What about YOUR way, dear architect...??????????
Can YOU design a paradigmatic house, a "manifesto house" for the 21st Century...?!?
Replace Villa Savoye with Villa Ma Voie... that is, Villa YOUR way...!!!!!
Design a new house, for the 21st Century... imagine the quintessential house for us, here and now. Would it be a palace...? Would it be a mansion...? Would it be a tiny house...? Would it have a large garage for three cars, like Villa Savoye...? Would its curves be dictated by the optimal movement of the car turning the corner...? Would, instead, have no garage at all...? Would, instead, have much less glass, since losing energy might be problematic, now...?! Would it still be on pilotis...?!? Would it have a terrasse jardin...? Would it be a private house, or an apartment building...?!?
How would "VILLA YOUR WAY" look like, dear architect...???????????
Would it be all white...? Would it just use concrete and steel and glass...???????????? Would it have unending horizontal windows...?????????????? Would it be a skyscraper, or a humble shelter underground...????????????
How would it be...??????????????
