Erläuterungstext
Kuehn Malvezzi won the competition for the first construction phase of Holzmarktstraße 3-5, at Jannowitzbrücke in the center of Berlin. A typologically differentiated design responds to the heterogeneous urban fabric that surrounds the plot. With a total floor area of 30.000 m², the new ensemble consists of a detached structure, as well as an additional wing that completes the adjacent heritage-listed townhouse to form a typical Berlin block. The freestanding building is a composition of S-shaped structures that generate two green islands as pocket parks around co-working and conference as well as office spaces. Moreover, the design connects the urban spaces of the street with the old railway viaduct by means of slightly inclined passages, creating another vibrant public space. Commissioned by Art-Invest Real Estate and CESA Unternehmensgruppe, construction of the project is due to start in summer 2020.
