Viinikanlahti International Urban Ideas Competition in Tampere (FI)

The proposal is based on compact urban block tissue and a vivid continuous green shore belt with recrational islands from the mouth of Viinikanoja to the Hatanpää gardens. The compact block structure creates a protective edge between peaceful inner courtyards and waterfront areas and outer traffic loaded Hatanpään valtatie. Concurrently, it also forms a continuation of urban central city streetscape towards south. The continuous block tissue consists of two main types of residential blocks (grid block and superblock) and variations within them as well as different functional zones in between them (local centre, day-care and school, parks and parking facilities).
