The Jury's statement:

“The challenge was to design two boxes with practice rooms for musicians; the result is a solution that is convincing in every detail, both functionally and aesthetically, and is "appropriate" in the truest sense of the word. The project represents a perfect symbiosis of prefabrication and on-site realisation, simply structured, not overly "important" in appearance for all its perfection and almost poetic beauty. The project development seems to be directly readable in all solution steps, from the initial questioning of the location, to the detailed development of ideas, to the realisation. You can literally see the many sketch sheets that invite you to discover the detailed solutions. And there is much to discover - for example, the reflection of the curtain-like undulating copper façade through the sound-absorbing curtains in the rehearsal rooms. In the overall picture, the pavilions do not offer a set-up, but a perfectly balanced scenario - not built up, but perfectly fitted into the built environment. In some places you see simple containers converted for similar uses, but the ones realised here stand for the humanistic variant.”

Die Story

Die Not an Räumen zum Üben für die Studierenden der Musikfakultät war lange groß – alle denkbaren Optionen von Dachgeschoss bis Keller wurden unter die Lupe genommen, fielen jedoch nach eingehender Machbarkeitsprüfung stets aus. Die Bespielung der ungenutzten Innenhöfe war die rettende Idee zur Lösung des Problems. Und nach einem Ämterdauerlauf, der einen langen Atem abverlangte, konnte diese Idee schlussendlich realisiert werden.

Das Konzept

Zwei goldene Pavillons ergänzen nun den historischen Schulbau der UdK an der Bundesallee. Auf der straßenabgewandten Seite besetzen die Gebäude die Innenhöfe und nehmen den Farbton der umfassenden Klinkerwände auf. Vierzehn Räume zum Üben, darunter zwei mit Konzertflügeln ausgestattet, bieten den Studierenden die Möglichkeit zur intensiven Arbeit mit ihren Instrumenten. Ein eigens entwickeltes Schallschutzkonzept sorgt für eine störungsfreie Nutzung der einzelnen Räume – auch zu Stoßzeiten. Der Nachhall kann über schwere Vorhänge individuell geregelt werden.

Die Konstruktion

Die Räume wurden im Massivholzbau errichtet, als Module fertig vorproduziert und schallentkoppelt auf einer Stahlbetonbodenplatte nebeneinander aufgestellt. Kragplatten an den Zellen bilden den Flur, der als farbige Passage gestaltet wurde. Die sichtbaren Holzoberflächen in den Räumen schaffen eine besondere Aufenthaltsqualität für die Übenden. Die aus Dreischichtplatten bestehende Wetterhaut wird durch eine vorgehängte gewellte Metallfassade überdeckt, die sich schwingend um das Gebäude legt. Das perforierte Metall ist von außen ein willkommener Sichtschutz, vor allem jedoch veredelt es die Erscheinung der Pavillons und tritt in einen Dialog mit dem Altbau.

Die Pavillons wurden mit einer Anerkennung des Deutschen Fassadenpreises 2020 ausgezeichnet.
