Erläuterungstext
Sauerbruch Hutton’s scheme consists of an underground volume to create minimum disturbance to the City Park. Freestanding glass objects above ground contain the visitors’ centre that is fragmented in order to maximize the interface between park and the various facilities of the museum. These glass objects exhibit the museum’s activities to the public realm like the showcases in the galleries below ground do to the visitor. This dramaturgy is highlighted by the use of dichroic or coloured glass wherever the museum surface is exposed to sunlight, offering manifold reflections to overlay what is seen behind the glass with what is in front.
