Sutor-Prize 2006 - A cathedral of electricity

The SUTOR-PRIZE will be initiated for the first time in the winter semester of 2006/2007. It is aimed at students of architecture and young graduates of European universities. Participation is limited to students and graduates of these universities whose date of graduation was within the past three years. One of the universites will manage the formulation of the brief, organisation and documentation of each project.
The competition shall be held every three years. HafenCity University Hamburg will be a standing participant in the competition for the architecture prize. The other three European architecture faculties, which will be newly nominated for each competition, may change.
Eligible for this year\'s participation are students enrolled in the following universities or those who have graduated from the universities within the last three years:
Delft University of Technology Delft, Netherlands
University of St. Petersburg St. Petersburg, Russia
Università Degli Studi di Napoli \"Federico II\" Naples, Italy
HafenCity University Hamburg Hamburg, Germany.
Object of the ideas competition is the redevelopment and change of use of the disused electric power station on the River Bille in Hamburg Hammerbrook, a part of town not far from Hamburg\'s city centre which is largely dominated by commercial land-uses. In consideration of existing buildings of the power station which are to be protected for conservation purposes, proposals for the continued utilisation and preservation of the site should be made.
