The proposed works consist of Deep Retrofit to Tom Johnson House — an existing 1970s 5 storey over basement (with a plant room on the roof) office building of approx 10 500m2, located in Dublin 4. This is not a Protected structure but is adjacent to several Protected structures (former Beggar’s bush military barracks).
Development will consist of the demolition, stripping back and removal of the existing façade, roof, internal finishes and services and the construction/installation of a new façade, roof, internal finishes and services and modification and upgrade to the existing structure.
The project also requires refurbishment and upgrade works to the Irish Labour history museum, which is a Protected structure. This is adjacent to Tom Johnson house and is a 2 storey stone building in relatively good condition, with pitched and hipped slate roof, with an internal area of approx 500m2.
It is intended to construct a link between both buildings as part of the overall project.
