Samferdselsdepartementet [the Ministry of Transport and Communications] has given Forsvarsbygg [the Norwegian Defence Estates Agency] the task of preparing the preliminary project for the new main building at Jan Mayen. The main building shall replace the old building that was built in the 1950s. The buildings must have most of the facilities needed for living, working and leisure at Jan Mayen. Based on information in this tender documentation, the Norwegian Defence Estates Agency (NDEA) requests tenders for a consultancy group. Experience with engineering design in Polar Regions will be emphasised.

The assignment includes pre-engineering design services for a new building with an estimated gross area of 3 150 m2. Options for further engineering design / preparation of functional descriptions and follow-up during the construction period.
The buildings subject to demolition have an area of approx. 2 000 m2. Large parts of the building contain asbestos materials.
Workshops for vehicles and a machine building for power supply are subject to renovation and continuation.
Jan Mayen is a volcanic island. The area subject to foundation and construction works is located in an area with permafrost and earthquakes.
