Erläuterungstext

Located at the very heart of Mnichovo Hradiste city, Masaryk´s square features a rich history and a unique layout with a significant mass of buildings in its centre dominated by Neo-Renaissance Town hall.
The aim of the Masaryk´s square redesign is to reflect all this and still create a contemporary and vibrant space while responding to today´s requirements and opportunities.

North-eastern part of the square will be freed from all traffic and will function as a multipurpose space which can accommodate various social and cultural events. Bus routes will be relocated to the southern part. The main routes, parking places and adjacent pedestrian areas will be positioned onto the same street level to create a barrier-free space.
Using local materials, the whole square area will be unified with new sandstone paving.

The rich history and former prosperity of the town will be symbolized by a large mosaic-paved area inserted into the north-east part of the square. This mosaic-paved area composed from a recurring symbol of the town - two crossed pastoral staffs will include most of the important historical elements such as a statue of Vaclav Budovec from Budov, new water feature referring to a former pond situated at the same location and other important historical moments from the town´s rich past.

A Freeman´s maple planted along the central mass of the buildings will further accentuate the prominent position of the Town hall building.
Field maple Acer campestre´Elsrijk´ will be planted along the town square perimeter to frame the newly redesigned space and to provide shadowed areas for nearby cafés and restaurants during hot summer days.
