Erläuterungstext

floating pavilion "palazzo foresta"

Initial concept of the idea of a massive wooden pavilion is the historic background and the landmark context of the built utopia of venice and it`s fundaments that are partially made out of wooden logs rammed into the swamp ground. Since the foundation of Venice in the 5th century large parts of northern italian forests were teared down for the city`s consolidation in order to ensure solid, stable building ground.
Istria and Dalmatia suffered from immense deforestation.
The shaping associates different architectural images and styles so richly existing in the city of Venice. For instance the arcades of the Doge's Palace in wich front the pavilion shall be located. On the other hand it refers to the morbid charme of the ruins, the growing destruction and the earlier devastation that facilitated the CanalCity.
The open floor plan zoned by six larger and thinner columns organic outgrowing out of the bottom ground. It evokes the geographic situation of those many surrounding lagoon islands.
In addition this leavened diametral object with it`s positive-negative expression plus reflective effects of the lagoon-mirror it can be seen as a reminiscence of the arcane issues of Venice in general.
The complete pavilion can be recycled and reused as building material.
