A regional commercial quarter that draws on community gardens with a meandering pedestrian thread that leads from terraces to the meandering river are central to this development idea. Varied and flexible public places provide for markets, theatre and moonlight cinema. Water treatment and ‘learned’ access to the river underpins the design philosophy. This scheme uses landscape to drive placement and form making for commercial buildings of a range of scales that the Jury imagines will provide a framework for encouraging new commercial activity that is diverse and innovative. This would be a wonderful quarter in which to work and play and a drawcard for new business in Queanbeyan.
