Unda Arctica
The undulating white steel structure of the main bridge creates a rhythm that respects the natural variations of the landscape, starting with lower amplitude and growing towards the mid-span, then turning down again. The structure plays on subtle vertical variations and does not introduce any steep accents or abrupt deviations from the delicate landscape and cityscape silhouettes. The structure is at its highest (only 48 m) at about the halfway on Kruunuvuorenselkä, to carry the longest span (228 m) but also to mark the crossing of important functional and experiential axes: While for the bridge users the highest point of the structure marks the halfway of the bay crossing, for sailors it shows the lane position. And from Kulosaari a cultural-historically significant view axis is directed towards Suomenlinna through the span under the highest arch. Generally, the longest spans are situated in the middle of the bay to ensure free views over Kruunuvuorenselkä.

The entry contains one strong formal idea that in all its clarity is enough to give the bridge its own recognisable identity.
