Erläuterungstext

The project sharedme.net, which means in the Viennese dialect as much as "doesn’t interest me", deals in a critical way with the development of society towards an Internet-society in which everybody is for themselves, surfing in the "cloud" detached from the physical world. Not even data storage devices are needed anymore, all one needs is a mobile phone, a tablet or a laptop - the data is stored in the cloud.
This development is applied in an exaggerated way onto the apartment topic. A real "cloud" will be build which outsources all classical functions of an apartment into the internet and through the internet into the surrounding area. The kitchen is replaced by food delivery which is ordered online. The desk is replaced by the tablet. Even the toilet is not existent - the inhabitant looks the next one up online. Only a bed is to be found in the structure and a pedal driven generator which can be used to charge the communication devices. The inhabitant moves through cyberspace and finds there also what he needs in the outside world, should he ever leave the cloud.
The cloud could be located everywhere, but to even further underline the concept of the project, we have chosen to locate it on a traffic island in front of the Isar gate. Its a dead, unused spot surrounded by multi-lane roads, detached from the rest of the city.
The cloud will be constructed out of old data storage devices which have become obsolete (VHS - tapes) or which are becoming more and more obsolete (printed newspapers). A base construction out of pallets and wood will be hung from traffic light poles and a cloud shaped shell will be constructed on top of it. To achieve this, the interior of the cloud will be formed out of inflated trash bags. These bags are then covered with multiple layers of old newspapers and wallpaper glue. In the end the shell gets wrapped with magnetic tapes out of VHS cassettes and a final layer of clear paint is applied to guarantee water resistance. After the cloud-shell is finished the trash bags are removed. Plastic bottles filled with water and bleach are stuck through the shell as lighting. The cloud can be entered with a ladder through a hatch.
