Seoul Station Overpass

The second place project was noted for its reverence towards the memories of the place, accompanied by minimal intervention of the overpass. The proposal was fitting as it proposed the promotion of change in the surrounding environment, made possible by tracking changes in the terrain and urban fabric over time, and by closely analyzing the local community. The proposal was also applauded for its practical design locating private sector zones open to intervention by the public realm. The design was noted for its consideration of cost-effectiveness and maintenance, and was equally persuasive in its design strategy promoting the participation of local residents. However, the proposal’s shortcomings lay in a somewhat passive attitude towards utilizing the superstructure of the overpass, and its lacking of further development of a specific design proposal.
